Mae Schmidle is Appointed to Milk Board

Former legislator Mae Schmidle has won appointment to the Milk Regulation Board Tuesday, officials said.

The Newtown resident, who served as a state representative for many years, was nominated to the board by Rep. DebraLee Hovey (R-112), officials said in a press release.

"It is a great honor to support the nomination of Mae Schmidle who has been a very influential figure in Newtown for so long," Hovey said in a press release.

Schmidle's appointment was confirmed Tuesday, officials said. The Milk Regulation Board is charged with ensuring milk produced in the state complies with quality standards and that residents have an adequate and regular supply of it.

The board can set regulations to establish inspection standards for facilities and processes to ensure for the production, handling, storage and manufacturer of retail raw milk, retail raw milk cheese, butter, cheese, dry milk, whey, concentrated milk, condensed milk, single service fluid milk enclosures and milk products.
