Newtown Begins Municipal Space Needs Assessment

GE gives town $15 million gift

Newtown Begins Municipal Space Needs Assessment

There are gifts and then there are gifts!

General Electric has pledged to construct a new $15 million community center for Newtown because it has a lot of employees that live here and to help the community continue to heal.

The town is now getting very serious about the project as it has undertaken a space needs assessment in its municipal buildings, the Danbury News Times reports.

The paper says the new community center could house the Senior Center, Parks and Recreation and an acquatics center.

However, this would free up significant space for use, which has led the town to study its space needs. Additionally, the Danbury News Times reports that the Police Department needs more space and after the volunteer Fire Department relocates there will be another building that can be utilized.
