The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department normally sports blue shirts. But the department worked with a Danbury-based company to create green T-shirts specially designed to honor the 26 victims of the school shooting, in an effort to raise money for the Sandy Hook School Fund, managed through the United Way and Newtown Savings Bank.
All proceeds from the sale of the shirts — they're $15 each — will be donated to the fund, firefighters confirmed on Monday afternoon while at the firehouse, which is located at the access road to Sandy Hook Elementary School and which served as a shelter for students on the morning of Dec. 14.
To order shirts, visit Rankin Sporting Goods' website. In a message on that page, the company writes:
"We at Rankin Sports would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. Please help support the Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue Department. All proceeds will go to the SHS fund."
