DeLauro to Run for Reelection in 2012

Longtime Congressman tells Patch she will seek a 12th term in the district that includes North Branford, Branford and Guilford.

DeLauro to Run for Reelection in 2012

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro said she will run for reelection to the 3rd Congressional District seat in 2012.

In an email to Patch on Monday, DeLauro spokesman Kaelan Richards confirmed the 20-year incumbent would seek a 12th term as the representative for the House of Representatives district, which stretches from the North Branford and surrounding towns to Naugatuck and Waterbury.

DeLauro’s statement came in response to an inquiry regarding , a motivational speaker from Naugatuck, who announced Monday he would run for the 3rd Congressional seat also.

“I welcome his candidacy and anyone else that might be interested in running,” DeLauro said in an email to Patch. “I will be working on getting the economy back on track here in Connecticut, and getting change in Washington.”

DeLauro was first elected to the seat in 1990. She has repeatedly won re-election in a majority Democratic district that mostly centers on New Haven County. , DeLauro serves on a Congressional committee overseeing education, health and employment.

Winsley is the second person from Naugatuck to run against DeLauro in two years. Jerry Labriola Jr., a former borough resident who still practices law here, had run against DeLauro in 2010, however Labriola lost after only attaining 34 percent of the vote.
