It's 10:15 a.m. as Andrew Piscitelle opens up his gun shop with Malcolm, a 6-year-old German shepherd/husky rescue at his heels. As we enter, Lucy, a 7-month-old black lab, bounds out from behind the front desk, wrestling a green miniature football into submission at my feet. After answering a few phone calls, Piscitelle is ready to share with Patch.

North Branford Patch: What do you enjoy most doing business in North Branford?

Andrew Piscitelle: It's a great community. The people are really friendly.

North Branford Patch: What makes your business unique?

Piscitelle: We like to think of ourselves as a family store where people can come in and relax, hang out, have a cup of coffee. We're very customer service-oriented.

Piscitelle owns the business, , with his wife and 26-year-old daughter. He says North Branford is one of the few towns that was willing to welcome him and his gun shop.

North Branford Patch: What brought you into this business?

Piscitelle: My doctor said I needed to find something less stressful.

Piscitelle says he was once a writing professor at Southern Connecticut State University before becoming an English teacher for "severely emotionally distubed kids in Hartford." His relationship with guns began when he started hunting with his dad at eight years old.

North Branford Patch: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Piscitelle: I don't consider this work. If I did, I wouldn't be doing it. Aside from that, I'm an avid reader. I like history-related stories on the different wars, I find that very interesting. I also read a lot of business type-oriented books–lots of research reading."

North Branford Patch: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Piscitelle: Knowing we've, in the training aspect, done a good job helping people understand firearm safety.

Piscitelle is an NRA training instructor who certifies individuals to teach firearm safety classes. He offers various training courses including an all-female class with a female instructor. Visit their site for more information.

North Branford Patch: What do you want your customers to know about your business?

Piscitelle: We're here to serve them. If there is something we don't have, we'll do our best to help them get what they need. Everything is fully waranteed, including our used guns. People are always welcome to come in and browse. People aren't forced into sales here. People come here sometimes to see the dogs.

Perfect Trigger has been open since August of 2009. They are now open seven days each week. Click here for hours and more information. Piscitelle encourages calling the store with any questions.
