“Girls Night: The Musical”

Catch an upcoming performance of this fun production at the Shubert Theater.

“Girls Night: The Musical”

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much-deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Time for a night out, ladies? For your next Great Escape, consider attending the ultimate sing-along and dance party with a few of your closest friends.

“Girls Night: The Musical” is coming to the Shubert Theater in New Haven on October 14 and 15. Britain’s Louise Roche wrote the original version in 2003, and now’s your chance to see the show that has been getting rave reviews in the U.S. since its 2007 debut. Tickets are on sale now for all three shows at the Shubert. Applause Magazine has described the U.S. version as “Desperate Housewives meets Mamma Mia!”

Without giving away too much of the story line, the basic plot is that Sharon, the “angelic” narrator, reveals to the audience that she was killed at the young age of 17. Candy Rose, the daughter that she left behind, is now engaged to be married, and Sharon’s high school friends have come together at a local karaoke bar to celebrate with Candy and to remember Sharon. They take turns belting out pop and rock hits like ”It’s Raining Men” and “We Are Family.” Of course, the celebration would not be complete without the women’s power anthem “I Will Survive” to end the show.

“Girls Night” is a participatory event, so don’t worry about remaining quiet and seated. The audience is encouraged to sing and dance along with the performers. However, the musical is not for the modest or timid, since several reviews describe it as “raunchy” and recommended for mature audiences only. So, ladies, grab a few friends—men are welcome to attend too, if they dare—and head out for an unforgettable night of music and fun.
