Boat Fire Breaks Out At Norwalk Marina: FD

Two boats were damaged beyond repair after an electric boat caught fire at a marina in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

NORWALK, CT — Two boats were damaged beyond repair after an electric boat caught fire Wednesday at a marina in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Steve Shay said the boat fire was reported at the dock of Rex Marine Center, located at 144 Water Street, with two boats on fire.

Firefighters fought the blaze from the dock while a fire boat responded from the water. According to Shay, the fire was difficult to extinguish because one of the vessels was a fully electric boat.

The boats were removed from the water to prevent them from sinking, however both were "a total loss," Shay said. One other boat sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported. The fire originated from the electric boat, however the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, Shay said.
