Cause Of Large Norwalk Fire Determined

Firefighters continued to battle the blaze into Monday night.

NORWALK, CT — A large fire at a condo complex had forced a nearby building evacuation Monday evening in Norwalk. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours at 100 Richards Ave. with the help of many surrounding departments. In total residents were displaced from 54 units.

Fire Marshals have determined that the cause of the fire was carelessly disposed smoking materials, according to the Norwalk Hour. The fire started at a third-floor unit.

Norwalk, Rowayton, Stamford and Darien Fire Departments arrived to help, according to the Norwalk Police Department PIO office. Fairfield, Westport and New Canaan Fire Departments covered the city's other calls.

An adjacent condo complex was evacuated.

Norwalk Fire Department command has ordered firefighters to evacuate the structure at 100 Richards Ave. All fire personnel were accounted for, police said.
