Sec. of State Calls for 4 Norwalk Polling Sites to Receive Election Audit

NORWALK, CT — Polling machines at Ponus Ridge Middle School, Roton Middle School, St. Mary's Community Hall and Wolfpit Elementary School in Norwalk will be audited this weekend, under order from the Connecticut Secretary of State's Office.

The audit of 5 percent of the state's polling sites that used optical scanning machines in the Nov. 8 election is to ensure that the machines were working properly. It is not considered a recount.

A total of 38 primary polling sites, and another 31 alternate locations, are subject to the audit. Connecticut had 747 polling sites that used optical scanning machines. Of the four sites in Norwalk, Ponus Ridge is considered an alternate site.

"Connecticut should be proud to have some of the most stringent audit laws in the country," said Secretary of the State Denise Merrill in a statement. "In an election year that saw various entities attempt to sow the seeds of doubt in the process, this state can be assured that all possible safeguards are in place to count every vote. Whether it is Election Day Registration, online voter registration or our meticulous audit process, the rights of the voter are our highest priority in Connecticut."

The Norwalk audit, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Dec. 3 and 4 in the Community Room at Norwalk City Hall, reports The Hour.
