News on Former Tax Collector Expected Today

First selectman says she will have some news today on Karen Guillet.

News on Former Tax Collector Expected Today

First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said at Wednesday's Board of Selectmen meeting that she will have an update today for the media on the status of former , who is accused of stealing more than $670,000 from her office over a roughly six-year span.

Drayton-Rogers made that announcement when answering a citizen at the meeting who inquired about the status of the investigation into Guillet. However, Drayton-Rogers would not say what she had planned to discuss.

Drayton-Rogers told an Oxford Patch reporter that she was not prepared to discuss the situation Wednesday night but would be today.

Several residents have been wondering what is happening with the criminal investigation into Guillet. The state police Western District Major Crimes Squad has been investigating.

Guillet, whom Drayton-Rogers said she at one time had considered a friend, came under suspicion at the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. On Jan. 13, 2010, Guillet admitted to Drayton-Rogers that she had stolen $3,093, and officials later determined it was more, Drayton-Rogers has testified in court.

Guillet, who served the town for 24 years, was later placed on administrative leave while a committee investigated discrepancies in the tax collector coffers. Guillet later resigned.

The town has filed a civil suit against Guillet that is still pending.

It could not be confirmed Wednesday night whether Guillet had been arrested. Town officials close to the case either would not say or said they did not know Thursday night. And Oxford Resident Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky could not immediately be reached.

Oxford Patch will follow this story today.
