Oxford Election 2015 Results: Winner Declared in First Selectman's Race, Library Vote Decided

The central campaign theme has centered over the proposed Oxford Power Plant. Also funds for a new library are voted on.

UPDATE: Republican First Selectman George R. Temple won re-election Tuesday night according to officials as he secured 2,134 votes. His Democratic challenger Kathy Johnson received 1,576 votes.

GOP Selectman Jeffrey J. Haney also won re-election. Voters also approved up to $3.5 million in funding for a new public library, according to the registrars office.

Additionally, the Oxford First Selectman race pits two-term GOP Incumbent George R. Temple versus his Democratic challenger Kathy Johnson, a former first selectman.

Incumbent GOP Selectman Jeffrey J. Haney Sr. will go up against Democratic challenger Peter Bunzi.

Temple, an attorney, has been a big proponent of the proposed Oxford Power Plant saying it will bring in thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue for the town, which will help ensure the tax rate can remain low.

Temple’s opponent Kathy Johnson, has opposed the power plant.

Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.at the Quaker Farms School, 30 Great Oak Road.
