Ridgefield Academy Hosts Annual Touch-a-Truck Experience

Ridgefield Academy invites kids to its annual Touch-a-Truck event.

April 28, 2016 – (Ridgefield, Connecticut) – As long as construction and emergency trucks have existed, children – and many adults – have been fascinated by them. On Saturday, May 14, from 9-11am, curiosity will give way to hands-on experience when Ridgefield Academy welcomes youngsters of all ages to its fourth annual Touch-a-Truck event. Children will be encouraged to touch, climb on and learn about a variety of emergency and construction vehicles. This free event is open to the public, and gives participants an opportunity to visit the Academy’s Landmark Preschool and first ever Maker Faire.

Touch-a-Truck will feature approximately eight different construction trucks for children to explore. Fire and police vehicles are also likely to be on display, barring the need of their assistance at any local emergencies. In the past, over 100 people have attended this popular event, and inquisitive children have enjoyed getting behind the wheel, blowing horns and turning on sirens. Light refreshments will be served.

A wonderful springboard into fantasy play, Associate Head School and Director of Enrollment, David Suter, describes Touch-a-Truck as “a day in the life” of emergency responders and construction workers that children will talk about with friends for weeks to come.

After attending Touch-a-Truck, parents are welcome to learn more about Ridgefield Academy’s Landmark Preschool, if desired. Alison O'Callaghan and Clinton Howarth, Heads of Preschool/Lower and Middle/Upper schools, respectively, will be available to answer questions and provide tours of the facilities.

Families will also enjoy visiting the school’s first ever Maker Faire, which will be held on campus from 10am-1pm. The Faire will feature projects created by Ridgefield Academy students, from preschool through Grade 8, including: robots, Arduino projects, coding, textiles, music, art, rockets, puppets, food, and more.
