World Asthma Day 2013 Essay/Poster Contest
In 2011, it was estimated that 25.9 million Americans had asthma, including 7.1 million children under age 18. In 2010, in CT, 9.2% of adults and 11.3% of children had asthma. We all have been affected by asthma, but each of us has an individual story to tell... SHARE YOUR STORY! What: World Asthma Day 2013 Contest. Share your story about how asthma has impacted your life in one of the three media: Video: must be no longer than 2 minutes long, please upload the video to YouTube and email us the link. Poster: maximum size 11 x 17. Essay with pictures: Essay is not to exceed 500 words and a limit of 3 pictures Who: Everyone who is a CT resident is invited to participate! There are two categories for the competition: youth (ages 5—17) and adults (18+). Why: Help us raise awareness of asthma! Too many people are affected by asthma and we want to change that. Your stories can make a difference. Where: Submissions should be made to Hilary Norcia, Community Health Coordinator at Central CT Health District: 120 Cedar St., Newington, CT 06111, phone: 860-665-8571, email: HNorcia@newingtonct.gov. We will display as many submissions as we can on World Asthma Day at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, CT. When sending in your contest submission, be sure to include the name of all contributors to the project, ages, contact information and if applicable, parental/guardian permission to submit material. Winners of the contest will be notified in advance of World Asthma Day 2013 on May 7, 2013. First prize in each age category will be an IPod Nano valued at $140. When: We are accepting submissions from March 15—April 30. Winners will be notified at least two weeks in advance of World Asthma Day. All winners must attend World Asthma Day and be available for other media appearances. Once materials are submitted, they are property of the Region II Asthma Coalition. Two iPod Nanos will be given to each prize winner!
