Obituary: Walter J. Zak, Lifelong Shelton Resident

The lifelong Shelton resident, who owned a local auto service business for more than 30 years, entered into rest Feb. 2.

Obituary: Walter J. Zak, Lifelong Shelton Resident

Walter J. Zak, age 86, of Shelton entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at St. Vincents Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of 66 years to Lillian Baklik Zak. Walter was born in Shelton, on May 16, 1926, son of the late Vincent and Helen Tichy Zak and was a lifelong Shelton resident.

He was the owner and operator of Z & M Auto Service in Shelton for over 30 years until his retirement. Walter was an avid trout fisherman and loved teaching his daughters and grandchildren the sport. He also enjoyed Tag Saling and Flea Marketing.

He is the loving father of Diane Durrschmidt and her husband Rick, Nancy Durrschmidt and her husband Chris and Sharon Badowski and her husband Mark. He is the loving grandfather of Richard and his wife Meredith, Christopher, Kyle, Lisa, and Tracey Durrschmidt and fiance’ Frank Hawley, Kimberly and Brian Badowski and great grandfather of Mariah and Frankie Hawley. Walter is also survived by his brother Joseph Zak, sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Vincent and Frank Zak and a sister Marie Belinski.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 4-7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton CT 06484. On Wednesday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Shelton. His burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Shelton, CT Special Olympics through the funeral home.
