Southbury Considers Dropping Resident State Trooper Program: Report

If the town follows through, it would need to hire its own police chief.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Whether Southbury will continue with a resident state trooper program is the subject of a study currently underway among town officials, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.

Costs of the program to communities could rise in the future, due to the state's fiscal woes, which could make dropping the program more palatable for the town from a financial standpoint.

If the town follows through with dropping the program, it would need to hire its own police chief to oversee the department. The town considered dropping it in 2009, but residents voted against the measure.
