Southington Education Foundation Names Executive Board

Several roles will be filled by reigning members, but there are new volunteers on board as the foundation looks to expand its offerings in the community.

Southington Education Foundation Names Executive Board

The following was submitted by Dawn Miceli, President of the Southington Education Foundation.

The Southington Education Foundation has elected officers to its 2012 Executive Board, with Dawn A. Miceli serving as the organization’s chairwoman. 

Miceli, the communications coordinator at Hamden Hall Country Day School and a , has committed to bringing a greater awareness of the SEF and its mission to instill a love of learning in Southington school children.

Miceli formerly served as the SEF’s vice chairwoman and has been a member of the Executive Board since the organization’s inception in 2009.

Serving as vice chairwoman is Jan Galotti. A retired teacher, Galotti had been the SEF’s secretary and prior to that had been a member of the Board at Large.

Retired and former math teacher Alan M. DeBisschop will continue in his role as treasurer while Ronald J. Marut has accepted the post of secretary.

The Executive Board is also made up of special education teacher Bethany Pestillo, local attorney Anthony Alan Sheffy, former Southington Board of Education member and CCSU Professor Emeritus Dr. David Monti, local chiropractic physician Dr. George J. Costanzo and immediate past SEF chairman William M. Lutz.

Southington Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph V. Erardi Jr. serves as an ex-officio member.

The Southington Education Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to enriching the minds and lives of the town’s most impressionable community members – its school students – and supports innovative and creative initiatives that expand upon existing educational opportunities. 

To date, the foundation has funded more than $75,000 in grants to Southington educators, including a $25,000 pilot program for a premier STEM initiative at .

During the fall and spring of the 2011-2012 school year, the district’s fourth-graders participated in a hands-on science program at the outdoor facility. The foundation is currently in the planning stages to construct a state-of-the-art STEM Center at Camp Sloper to provide district-wide programming for a science, technology, engineering and math curriculum.      

Currently, the foundation is seeking new Board at Large members and has teamed up with S.T.E.P.S. to include a high school and middle school student to its ranks.
