350 Participate in Stamford Public Education Foundation's 2nd Annual MarcUS for Change 5K

The 2nd annual run-walk race raised money for the foundation's programs that assist Stamford students.

With more than 350 participants, The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) held its second successful MarcUS for Change 5K run/walk on Sunday, October 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cove Island Park in Stamford. “We are grateful to all of our sponsors, runners and volunteers who made the day a success. The run raised over $65,000 to date, which is significantly higher than last year,” said SPEF Executive Director Sue Rigano. All proceeds support SPEF and its nationally recognized mentoring initiatives.

Mayor David Martin and Superintendent Winifred Hamilton were on hand to cheer on participants and kick off the event. The school with the largest number of participants, Stamford High School, proudly accepted the MarcUS for Change “Spirit Award” along with a check for $1,000. All 350 participants received a dri-fit shirt and enjoyed food generously donated by community businesses. There was also music, face painting and a Fun Run for the kids.
