Ferguson Summer Reading Club Takes Off

Ferguson Summer Reading Club Takes Off
It's still early July, but more than 1,700 kids have already read 4,900 books as part of the Ferguson Library's Summer Reading Club.

The program entices children to read by rewarding them when they finish a set number of books.

The first completed book nets a participant a pencil that changes colors when you grab it. If that doesn't impress your child, no worries, it gets better. Just tell them to keep reading.

The third completed book earns a drawstring backpack, said Elizabeth McKay, a youth services librarian at Ferguson Library.

A child who finishes a fifth book will have their name registered and sent to the Stamford school they attend as a reward. Also, completing that fifth book should earn the reader an invite to the Palace Theatre for a special show by the "Swingset Mamas."

Those interested in joining should visit fergusonlibrary.org.
