The 28-year-old former boyfriend of a Darien woman choked her, pushed her to the ground and spit in her face when an argument escalated into a physical altercation, said police, who arrested the man.

Darien police gave this account of the incident:

On Wednesday afternoon, Oscar Molina of Stamford was with his former girlfriend at her home on Allen O'Neill Drive when they got into an argument that turned physical.

Police were called to the home at 3:50 p.m. They saw that the woman received scratches and bruises on her neck "with significant redness," and marks "consistent with the effects of strangulation. She decided not to get medical treatment.

Police arrested Molina, of 12 Underhill St. on charges of second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

He was unable to post the initial $25,000 bond and on Thursday was arraigned in state Superior Court in Stamford.
