An early morning fire at a Stamford recycling center prompted a response from over 40 firefighters.
STAMFORD, CT — An early morning fire at a recycling center in the Gelnbrook area of Stamford was brought under control by firefighters Thursday. The blaze broke out at the City Carting & Recycling facility on Taylor Reed Place around 4:32 a.m., according to a statement from Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Tripodi.
Both city firefighters and Glenbrook volunteer firefighters responded to the center, which was filled with heavy smoke when they arrived. The blaze began after a large pile of recycling materials caught fire, Tripodi said.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control around 5 a.m. with assistance from employees of the center, who used a payloader machine to pull apart the piles of burning materials.
