A Green Light Means Go ... To Jail If You're Suspected of Driving Drunk

Sitting stopped at a green light after 3 o’clock in the morning surely will get you the attention of Greenwich Police, as one Stamford man discovered on New Year’s Day.

It was 3:12 a.m. Jan. 1 on Arch Street, near I-95 in Greenwich. An officer observed a motorist stopped at a green light before finally turning onto the on-ramp of I-95 at Exit 3, according to a police report.

When officers stopped the driver, they found he had an odor of alcohol. He then failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Officers also discovered the man had a suspended license.

Phillip Bonaparte, 41, of 66 Reynolds Pl., Stamford, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control signal, operating without a license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Bonaparte wasn’t able to immediately post $250 bond. He’s scheduled to appear Jan. 15 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
