STAMFORD, CT — A house fire in Stamford on Friday claimed the life of a 67-year-old man, authorities said.
Shortly before 7 p.m., the Stamford Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 48 Powel Place after receiving several calls about smoke coming from the home's second floor.
When firefighters arrived, crews encountered heavy flames on the first and second floors, officials said. Crews worked to extinguish the fire while also searching the home for occupants; however, fire officials said search efforts were impeded by severe hoarding conditions inside the home.
