NBC Sports Move Confirmed [Update]

Update, Oct. 21, 2011

NBC's move to Stamford is official, according to a recent report from the Stamford Advocate.

NBC Sports, currently located in New York,  will come to Stamford, in part thanks to tax breaks being offered to NBC by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. Details of the tax credits involved in the deal have yet to be finalized.

Whereas UBS was offered similar tax incentives to remain in Stamford, NBC has been offered tax credits to come to Stamford, which may create over 1,000 new jobs.

NBC-Stamford's new location is currently under speculation.

NBC Sports is reportedly exploring the option of moving its operations from New York City to Stamford, and the former Clairol site on Blachley Road is reportedly being eyed as a possible location.

According to a post in Kevin Rennie’s news blog “ Daily Ructions,” NBC Sports is "deep into site studies and planning" to relocate operations to Stamford — a move that could bring as many as 1,000 jobs to the city.

The 32-acre site, a former hair dye factory, was purchased last year for $16.75 million by real estate developers and a movie studio, with plans to convert part of it into a sound stage.

A report from NBC Connecticut, however, was unable to confirm that NBC Sports is planning to move from New York.

As reported by in May, Chelsea Piers Connecticut is building a 400,000-square-foot sports complex at the former Clairol site, which is expected to be completed in 2012. Despite that project, there is still ample room in the sprawling, 672,654-square-foot campus for a television studio/sound stage.
