Report: US DOJ Investigating Stamford Public Schools

The Stamford Public Schools are reportedly under investigation for possible violations of the Equal Educational Opportunities Act.

According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, the U.S. Department of Justice is looking into allegations that the school system has failed to provide adequate resources for non-English speaking students.

The school administration has already responded to the investigation by making changes to the bilingual program, according to the report.

Superintendent of Schools Winifred Hamilton's 2013-2014 budget request reportedly includes the addition of two bilingual teachers and five para-educators for the English as a Second Language program for a total cost of $336,000. The ESL program is one of several bilingual programs the district runs.
