Stamford Man Critically Injured When He Was Struck by Car

A 30-year-old Stamford resident was critically injured when he was struck by a car while walking on Stillwater Avenue near West Main Street (Rt. 1) at 11:21 p.m. Thursday.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the crash and is seeking witnesses to the accident.

The man was walking with a friend when both attempted to cross from the west side of Stillwater Avenue to the east in the middle of the block, according to a police statement.

A 2007 Honda Accord operated by Thomas Rodriguez, 32, of Hope Street, Stamford, was traveling southbound on Stillwater Avenue when the collision occurred in the 50 block.

The pedestrian was transported to Stamford Hospital by Stamford Emergency Medical Service ambulance and admitted to the Critical Care Unit, police said.

Rodriguez stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Speed does not appear to be a contributor, but visibility may be a factor in the collision, police said. No charges have been filed at this time.
