Stamford Man Faces Child Pornography Charges

Stamford Police began their investigation last summer.

A 34-year-old Stamford man is facing child pornography charges following a Stamford Police investigation into the importation of child pornography at a Greenwich Avenue residence.

According to a police statement, the department’s Digital Forensics Unit and the State’s Attorney’s Office in Stamford began the joint investigation in August “when the Digital Forensics Unit received information that child pornography was being imported to (101 Greenwich Ave.) and investigators determined that there were numerous images of child pornography being downloaded through the modem” at the residence.

On Nov. 14, the forensics unit along with forensic officers from the Norwalk and Weston Police Departments executed a search warrant for 101 Greenwich AVe. and “found the only modem in the residence within the room of Ranjer Gonzalez.”

In a statement, police said “Gonzalez initially denied any involvement with child pornography.” But an officer saw Gonzalez try to hide a laptop beneath his bed. When officers downloaded the laptop and found more than 18 video files and 11,400 images of cild pornography on the hard drive, according to police.

Gonzalez admitted to police that he downloaded the materials, according to police who charged him with first-degree possession of child pornography and importing child pornography. Police said the Department of Children and Families was notified because a three-year-old girl lives in a room next to Gonzalez.
