Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Stamford
Wine, Women & Song at Connecticut Antiques & Greenwich Auctions in Stamford.

By Peter Flierl.
If you were Rip Van Winkel or an alien visitor from another planet, you might not be aware of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month nationwide. You are not Rip Van Winkel, nor are you an extraterrestrial. Like many, whether athletes in the National Football League or local business owners like David Johnson, you care on a personal level. Each of us knows a woman and a family effected. And in David’s case, his local business, Connecticut Antiques & Greenwich Auctions, believes in giving back, supporting local charities.
David is hosting Wine, Women & Song as part of Paint the Town Pink to benefit Stamford Hospital Breast Cancer programs on Thursday, October 16th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at his showroom and gallery at 83 Harvard Avenue in Stamford. You will enjoy wine tasting, a martini bar, delicious appetizers, and music provided by Richard “Cookie” Thomas from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. You will also have an opportunity to bid on innumerable items related to the party theme, including wines and wine glasses.

When you meet David, you sense he is a spiritual man. In the case of breast cancer and supporting Paint the Town Pink at Connecticut Antiques & Greenwich Auctions, he said: “In this case, my giving back is personal. My wife’s family is one of those decimated by breast cancer, including her aunt and her grandmother. We always try to say ‘Yes’ to local charities. This one strikes close to home.”
On a tour of the antiques warehouse, where you could easily spend hours or days, David observed he “is in the entertainment business… selling items no one needs, but everyone wants.”

Connecticut Antiques houses items large and small in its cavernous, yet bright and inviting spaces, nooks and crannies. Keep Out of War buttons from pre-World War II. A nude with a self-portrait of the artist and a colleague as background foliage, two lecherous men staring at the nude model. And on and on and on. Stop in and spend time. If you are so blessed, let David give you a guided tour. Connecticut Antiques & Greenwich Auctions has been at its 83 Harvard Avenue location for 18 months, having been forced to relocate after a fire destroyed their warehouse in Stamford’s antique dealers’ row.
David is a long time resident of Old Greenwich, where he lives with his wife, Gretchen Johnson, and their three children ages 8, 6 and 5. He is being assisted by Darie Donovan and Stephanie Benedetto, who serve as volunteer Co-Chairs of Paint the Town Pink: Wine, Women & Song and both manage to keep Connecticut Antiques & Greenwich Auctions running smoothly day-to-day.
Cost for Wine, Women & Song is $45 in advance and $55 at the door. For more information, call 203-355-9335 or e-mail pttpwinewomen@gmail.com.
