ID Released Of Woman Found Dead In Stamford Park: Police

Officers from the Stamford Police Department's Major Crimes Unit are investigating the "untimely death," police said.

STAMFORD, CT — A woman was found dead off a trail in Mianus River Park on Thursday morning, and she has been identified as 54-year-old Melissa Tiefer, according to the Stamford Police Department. Police said her last known address was in Greenwich.

The department said there is no indication that foul play is involved, and there is no danger to the public.

"We're looking at this as either a possible medical condition or a drug overdose," Asst. Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin told Patch.

Conklin said officers found what's believed to be"a large amount of opioids" at the scene. The substances will be tested as part of an ongoing investigation.

Around 8:40 a.m., the Stamford Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an "unresponsive female" in the park, which is located on Merriebrook Lane, police said.

Police, Stamford EMS personnel, and the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded, and Tiefer was pronounced dead, police said.

Mianus River Park is a nature reserve on the Greenwich/Stamford border, and it has a total combined acreage of 391 acres, the city of Stamford website says.
