Stonington to Host Free Light Bulb Swap for Residents with Eversource

STONINGTON, CT – Eversource and the Town of Stonington will host a free light bulb swap for residents on Saturday, March 25.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stonington Police Department community room on South Broad Street, according to a release.

Stonington residents, with identification, may bring up to five incandescent light bulbs in any condition and exchange them for new, energy-efficient ENERGY STAR® LED bulbs, free of charge while supplies last. Additional LEDs and lighting products will be available for purchase at a discounted rate.

“The LED giveaway is a perfect opportunity for Stonington residents to start saving money and energy at home,” Eversource’s Energy Efficiency spokesman Enoch Lenge said in a release. “Switching from incandescent to LED light bulbs is a great first step to improve your home’s energy efficiency.”

Energy experts from Eversource will be on-hand at the light bulb swap to answer questions and provide people with information on how they can save money and energy at home, including information on the popular in-home energy improvement service, Home Energy SolutionsSM.

Stonington joined Clean Energy Communities, the nationally-recognized Energize Connecticut program to help cities and towns save energy and increase the installation of renewable energy, in 2015. Eversource is currently working with Stonington to help it reach its energy goals and reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018.

Through Clean Energy Communities, Stonington residents that participate in Energize Connecticut programs help the town earn points toward a grant. These “Bright Idea Grants” fund community-selected energy saving projects such as the upcoming light bulb swap, or the installation of new LED lighting at town hall or a school.
