How Can Roosevelt Forest Be Improved?

Town hires consultant for $10,000 to find out.

How Can Roosevelt Forest Be Improved?

Improvements at North Stratford's Roosevelt Forest are long overdue, says Mayor John A. Harkins.

"That forest has been neglected for decades," Harkins said at Tuesday's Town Council meeting where town officials approved $10,500 for a consultant, Ferrucci and Wallicki, LLC, to make recommendations on the land.

Timber sales are expected to offset the cost of hiring the consultant, Bob David, chairman of the Roosevelt Forest Commission, told the Council prior to its vote.

"The forest is susceptible to disease," David said. "We need to get some of the trees out of there."

David said his commission received a grant from America the Beautiful to improve the health of the forest. Some of those monies will be used to implement the consultant's suggestions.

The consultant will walk the grounds with town officials to ensure the changes are transparent, David added.
