Self-Storage Facility Planned for Raymark Site in Stratford
Stratford has agreed to sell the property as part of a redevelopment project.

STRATFORD, CT — A new self-storage facility could soon grace the grounds at the 576/600 East Broadway property in Stratford.
Working with the EPA, CT DEEP, and The Salce Companies, Stratford has agreed to sell the property, which will result in $250,000 in revenue to the town. The move would also put the property, which is part of the Raymark Superfund site, back on the tax rolls.
Mayor John Harkins said the successful redevelopment of this property is crucial, especially with the EPA on the verge of releasing a comprehensive plan to remediate the remainder of the Raymark properties in Stratford.

The redevelopment of the property will also contribute to a reinvigorated economic development corridor along Ferry Boulevard.
“Having to manage the growth of our tax base with precious little available open space for development is a challenge,” Harkins said in a statement. “But this is an exact case of how we can be successful in economic development by cleaning up contaminated properties and getting them back on our tax rolls.

“EPA's work strives to allow Superfund cleanup projects to reach the ultimate goal of productive reuse in a community,” said Curt Spalding, Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's New England office. “This positive action by Mayor Harkins and the Stratford Town Council will allow us to proceed with a final design and construction of a protective cap that will not only isolate and contain the Raymark waste - protecting citizens and the environment from exposure - but will enable the planned productive reuse of the property.”
The Salce Companies, LLC said the facility will provide well-maintained short and long term self-storage services for both the residents of Stratford and neighboring communities.
