Suffield Wins Final Home Cross Country Meet of 2012

On an absolutely glorious fall day - a perfect day for watching or running in a cross country meet - Suffield High School hosted its final home cross country meet of the 2012 season Tuesday against Ellington and Canton.

The Wildcat girls and boys teams knew that they would have to defeat both Ellington and Canton in order to keep Suffield’s hopes alive of winning their respective conference titles. The NCCC cross country meet is less than a month away, on Friday, Oct. 19 at Windsor Locks High School. 

The girls continued their undefeated season, besting Ellington 20-37 and scoring a perfect 15–50 against Canton.  The Suffield girls were again led by overall race victor Elizabeth Rigby, with teammate Monique LaBarre finishing second, just five seconds back.  Laura Sweeney was 3rd overall, Nina Begley 6th, Hannah Gardocki 8th, Katelyn Corr 10th, Kellan McGann 11th, Erin Reynolds 13th, Erin Kost 15th, Lauren Izabel 15th, Megan Morton 19th, Megan Shannon 20th, Shayla Mattesson 21st and Kristyn Shank 24th

In the boys race, the score between Suffield and Ellington was as close as it could be ....... 27–28.  By a one point margin, Suffield bested Ellington, thereby keeping conference title hopes alive.    

Suffield was led by senior Jimmy Clark, who was 2nd overall, just five seconds behind Ellington's Neal Hulstein. Patrick Begley finished 3rd, Justin Walch 7th, Ben Gee 8th, Kevin Powell 12th, Matt Guilmette 15th,  John Urbanski 19th, Shawn Andrade 20th and Max Morris 22nd.  Suffield defeated Canton, 20–36.

After racing this past Thursday, Saturday and today; the Suffield High teams' next races are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Granby Memorial High School.

In other news, the Suffield Middle School boys and girls cross country teams remained undefeated for the season, besting Sage Park of Windsor and East Hartford Middle School Monday at East Hartford’s home course.
