From Coach Brandon Elliott:

The Tolland Boys Track & Field Team won their first state championship since 1997 Thursday afternoon with a total team effort.

The Tolland boys scored 75 points in the class-MM meet to outpace runner-up New Fairfield who had 57.25 points. The boys 4x800 relay team of Adam Medina, Ray Tetreault, Alex Medina and Ryan Possardt started off the meet with a solid 4th place finish upsetting several of the top seeded teams.

The 4x100 relay team of Tucker Hewitt, TJ Day, Adam Boucher and Dan Vareed lowered the school record scoring some crucial points early on for the Eagles.  Tucker Hewitt scored in the 100, and Kyle Lindsay had an excellent race and a personal best in the 110 hurdles.

Matt Mensher took second place in both the 1600 and 3200 followed by strong performances by Connor Lafontaine(6th) in the 1600 and Colin Sauter(4th) in the 3200. Dan Vareed took 4th in the 400 while Ray Tetreault took 3rd in the 300 hurdles.

Ryan Possardt continued to crush his opponents' spirits in the 800 with a 4th place finish and the 4x400 relay team of Adam Medina, Ray Tetreault, Joffre Rodriguez and Dan Vareed took 3rd place with a time just a few tenths of a second off of the school record. Adam Boucher defended his title as state champion in the Javelin taking 1st place in the event, and Austin Shelton took 1st in triple jump.
