Trumbull Council to Take Up Honoring Mary Sherlach

Sherlach was fatally shot in Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14. She was a school psychologist there.

Trumbull Council to Take Up Honoring Mary Sherlach

The Town Council will consider renaming the Trumbull Counseling Center after Trumbull resident Mary Sherlach, the school psychologist killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School Dec. 14, 2012.

First Selectman Tim Herbst introduced the legislation.

“Mary Sherlach devoted her entire career to helping other people” Herbst said. “Those that knew her and worked with her will always remember her unwavering commitment to helping others. Mary was selfless and courageous. This was truly exemplified by her valiant acts to try and protect the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School.”

Herbst said the center is the appropriate site to bear her name.

“Our counseling center exists to help residents who might be encountering problems or experiencing difficulties. As a school psychologist, Mary dedicated her life’s work to helping young children with problems or difficulties. I am confident that the Trumbull Town Council will act decisively in February to approve this important legislation as we honor Mary’s memory and pay tribute to her life’s work,” Herbst said.

The dedication of the Sherlach Counseling Center would take place in the spring, Herbst said.

The Town Council meets tonight at 8 p.m. in Town Hall.
