Hartford – State Representative Dave Rutigliano (R-Trumbull) joined his fellow Trumbull legislators in issuing a formal citation to the members of Trumbull’s state champion Mock Trial team, who took the state’s top prize for the second year in a row. The Trumbull team is only the second in the Connecticut Mock Trial Program’s nearly 40 year history to win back to back championships. Trumbull High School has been participating in the program for the past six years.
“I am extremely proud of Trumbull High School’s Mock Trial Team,” Rep. Rutigliano said. “To have won the state championship two years in a row is a significant accomplishment, and is a testament to the ability and dedication of all involved. These kids are incredibly talented, and I expect to see them go on to achieve great things.”
This year’s State Champion team consisted of students Mark Ambrose, Gabby Buttress, Christian DeGenova, Lauren DeNomme, Dante Esposito, Jackie Guillen, Ashley Hallstrom, Damaris Hernandez, Kathy Nickson, Ross Pellenberg, Jayla Perez, Cameron Perrelli, Anneliese Segarra, Steven Stanton, Molly Stewart, and Seth Wittstein. The team’s faculty mentors are advisor Eric J. August, and assistant coaches Leslie Bradshaw and Barbara Brown.
Mr. August, who is also the team’s head coach, has made an appeal for donations to help finance the 16 students’ upcoming trip to Madison, Wisconsin to participate in the National High School Mock Trial Competition this May.
