Bus Catches Fire At Busy Vernon Intersection

Firefighters and police responded to a bus fire at a busy Vernon intersection on Monday.

VERNON, CT — A school bus caught fire at a busy Vernon intersection on Monday afternoon, police said.

The fire broke out at 1:22 p.m. at the intersection of Route 83 and Dart Hill Road, police said. Firefighters went streaming down Center Road when the call came in to get the the incident.

The "small" fire was quickly extinguished, but firefighters had to treat the bus a second time after a "flare-up," police said.

The bus was not transporting any children and the driver was able to exit it safely, police said.
