Strange Odor Forces Evacuation at Vernon's Lake Street School

The call came into police at 3:49 p.m.

VERNON, CT — Lake Street School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon because of a strange odor, police said.

The call came into police at 3:49 p.m.

There was just a smattering of children in the building when the odor was detected, mostly from an after-school recreation program, police spokesman Lt. William Meier said.

The children were put on a bus to keep warm while fire officials investigated the source of the odor, Meier said.

No injuries were reported. Meier said no strange readings were obtained by firefighters and the scene was expected to be cleared quickly.
