Vernon's Daily 5: Muriel Says Sunshine

Here is the Daily 5 for Monday, Nov. 5, 2012:

1. Muriel, a third-grader from Skinner Road School, gives us our weather picture today. The National Weather Service says today should be mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

2. Mayor George F. Apel announced on Saturday that the Emergency Operations Center was closed after Connecticut Light & Power reported no
power outages in Vernon.

3. Mayor Apel publicly thanked all of the town and Board of Education employees and volunteers for "their fine efforts before, during and after Storm Sandy." He also publicly thank ed Connecticut Light & Power for its "timely work in resolving power issues resulting from Storm Sandy."

4. The mayor also publicly thanked "the citizens of Vernon for their patience during and after Storm Sandy."

5. The Coat and Clothes Connections second-annual coat drive is scheduled for Saturday at the Vernon Fire Department's Station 3, 100 Hartford Turnpike (across from golf land) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All items will be donated to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Coats, hats, gloves, scarves will all be accepted.
