Wayward Pickup Hits Car in Vernon Repair Shop Lot

VERNON, CT — Somehow, a pickup truck towing a lawn mower wound up careening down an embankment and slamming into another vehicle in the parking lot of a tire center and repair shop in Vernon on Monday morning.

Police at the scene said the crash took place at about 10 a.m. along Route 30 where it connects with Dobson Road.

From the position of the crash, the red Dodge pickup appeared to have been traveling west toward KMart. It hopped the curb just after the Dobson intersection and slammed into the rear a gray 4-door Nissan that was in the parking lot of the Firestone shop located at 327 Hartford Turnpike, the local address for that section of Route 30.

Police said the driver of the pickup may have had a medical episode before the crash. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, police said.
