UPDATE: Driver Identified in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-91 in Wallingford

UPDATE, 12 p.m.: The driver killed in the tractor-trailer crash on I-91 in Wallingford has been identified as Danilo Maia, 48, of Kearny, New Jersey, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A truck driver was killed in an early Monday morning crash that temporarily shut down part of I-91 South in Wallingford, according to multiple reports.

The New Haven Register reports that the tractor-trailer veered off the right side of the highway around 2 a.m. and crashed into trees and caught fire between exits 15 and 14.

The driver, who hasn’t been identified, was fatally injured in the crash.

Along with emergency crews, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to the scene to remove fuel from the tank the tractor trailer, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
