Explosion Sends 3 Girls To Hospital At Niantic Bay Monday

WATERFORD, CT — Three girls were sent to the hospital after a boat explosion Monday afternoon at the Niantic Bay boat valet.

Occupants of a 1983 Seabird boat with an inboard motor were fueling at the gas dock when the explosion occurred, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The girls who range in age from 12 to 14-years-old were taken to the hospital to be treated for burns. They were with the grandfather of one of the girls.

State EnCon Police and Town Fire Marshall are investigating.
