Local children can dress in costume, satisfy a need to amass vast quantities of candy, and support West Hartford's Food Pantry and the Lose the Training Wheels camp all at the same time.

From 4 to 6 p.m. on Halloween, next Wednesday, Conard High School's Kids Helping Kids Club is hosting "Trick or Treat Street," an indoor trick-or-treating event for children ages pre-kindergarten through grade 3.

More than 50 student volunteers, all dressed in "non-scary" costumes, will welcome the younger children in 20 classrooms on the first floor of Conard, each planned around a theme. Kids can trick or treat from classroom to classroom, being entertained and collecting candy in a safe and fun environment.

Admission is $2 per child with a canned food item, or $3 without.

The canned food will be donated to the West Hartford Food Pantry. Proceeds from the event will support Lose the Training Wheels, a week-long camp held each summer that teaches special needs children to ride two-wheelers.

West Hartford Leisure Services and Conard’s Kids Helping Kids Club are responsible for raising funds and soliciting sponsors and donations to make the Lose the Training Wheels camp possible.

Organizers thank Stop & Shop as well as the West Hartford Police Officers Association for their generous sponsorship of this event .
