Daily Five: Remember G. Fox, REI Winter Sports Weekend, Anniversary Dinner

1. The frost is on the pumpkin — if you didn't already toss it — and the snow is on the ground. You can sigh and put on your Snuggie, or you can get excited about what's in store over the winter. To help you with the latter choice, REI in Blue Back Square is hosting its first ever Winter Sports Weekend on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Mt. Snow ski area will be giving away one lift ticket per hour from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

2.The shiny floors, the sparkling light fixtures, the well-heeled salespeople. If you remember G. Fox when it was at its heyday, join Elizabeth Abbe of the Connecticut Historical Society as she brings you back in a free program at the Elmwood Community Center today at 10 a.m. Bring in your G. Fox items and share your special G. Fox memories. Registration is required by calling Elmwood Senior Center at 860-561-8180.

3. The Jewish Association for Community Living celebrates its 30th anniversary with a wine reception and dinner at Beth El Temple. The Master of Ceremonies is Ray Hardman of Connecticut Public Radio.

4. Our newest blogger Barb Levison says November isn't too early to start looking for overnight camp for tweens. She has some great advice on how to decide on a program.

5. Quote: It is only in sorrow bad weather masters us; in joy we face the storm and defy it. - Amelia Barr
