I Remembered the Year! West Hartford PZC, School Board Meetings

A look at the week ahead in West Hartford.

I Remembered the Year! West Hartford PZC, School Board Meetings

Good morning, West Hartford! Today is Monday, Jan. 6, 2014; there are 359 days left in the year.

No one likes a gloater. But I don’t care. Typically, it takes me until March or April before I adjust to the new numerical year.

Many checks have been sent to their graves as a result of my inability to get the year right.

But please note the above date. Twenty-fourteen, baby!

In your face, pre-Alzheimer’s!

I’m totally going to have the best year ever.

Here’s what’s going on this week:

1. The Town Plan and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet Monday at 7:15 p.m. to discuss, among other things, the proposed 9-acre, 12-lot subdivision at the rear of the American School for the Deaf. An independent study, ordered by the commission, concluded that more could be done to reduce the adverse impact on the property.

2. The West Hartford Board of Education is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Among the agenda items is an update on the new Charter Oak International Academy building.

3. The Intensive Education Academy, located at 840 N. Main St., will host an Insight Breakfast on Jan. 7 at the school from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m.

4. The second CT Improv Cage Match takes place Jan. 10 at Playhouse on Park at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10, general admission. This is a BYOB event.

For more information, call 860-523-5900 x10 or visit www.playhouseonpark.org.

5. The Fleet Feet ‘No Boundaries’ Beginner 5K training program starts next Saturday. Visit here for more details.

(Bonus) 6. The West Hartford Education Association will be hosting Jonathan Pelto on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Conard High School auditorium. Pelto is a former state legislator and is now a communications consultant. He writes the blog, “Wait, What?” which scrutinizes the many untold stories behind the implementation of education reform in Connecticut. His blog can be accessed at * jonathanpelto.com< http://jonathanpelto.com/>*. Pelto's presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by members of WHEA.
