Matt Cersosimo, Rob's Son, Appointed Head Football Coach at Conard High
Conard High didn't have to look far to find Rob Cersosimo's replacement as the head coach of the football program.

Athletic Director Betty Remigino-Knapp announced Saturday that Matt Cersosimo, Rob's son who served as the offensive coordinator in 2013 for the Chieftains, is the new head football coach at Conard.

Matt Cersosimo graduated from Conard High School in 1996 and was a three-sport athlete (football, ice hockey and lacrosse) for the Chieftains, according to a press release.

He is a graduate of Springfield College, where he played football and lacrosse for four years.

The appointment is hardly a case of nepotism, as Matt has quite a coaching pedigree.

Upon graduation, Matt served as an assistant football coach at Springfield College for two years and Harvard for another two years.

From 2006 to 2012 Matt was an assistant football coach at the University of Connecticut.

Matt Cersosimo is in his first year teaching physical education at Conard High School.

With his appointment, Matt becomes just the third head football coach in the school's history.

In 1983, Rob Cersosimo took over the head coaching position from his father-in-law - Matt's grandfather - Bob McKee, for whom the Conard High stadium is named.

Rob Cersosimo was one of the winningest football coaches in Connecticut history, holding a lifetime record 186-118-3. He was inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

He announced his decision to retire as head football coach to his players before the Mayor’s Cup football game between Hall and Conard in November, according to several sources.
