New Editor Taking the Helm at West Hartford Patch

Ronni Newton has long record of involvement in the community.

New Editor Taking the Helm at West Hartford Patch

West Hartford Patch welcomes a new editor — our stalwart About Town columnist Ronni Newton — as I move into a more regional job with the Patch news organization.

Newton has been a freelance writer and editor for local and regional publications for the past 10 years. Most recently she was editor of Living in West Hartford, Living in the Valley and Living on the Shoreline magazines. Before joining the publishing world, she was a client executive with national insurance broker Marsh & McLennan in their Washington, D.C., office.

She is married to Ted Newton, a West Hartford native. Their daughter attends Conard High School and their son is at Sedgwick Middle School. Newton is an avid runner whose license plate says "RUN MOM."

"I think West Hartford is such a great town," Newton said.  "I look forward to this opportunity to interact with the community and to continue to make Patch a valuable resource for West Hartford."

Since we launched in November, I have been privileged to report on and edit the stories of our community. I have written about everything from the shooting on Abbotsford Avenue in March to snow day survival to parking meter issues, and I have learned more about our town's tax structure than I ever wanted to know. But mostly I have been overwhelmed by the interest and support from those of you who love West Hartford and want to keep the dialogue going on all the issues that face us today.

I believe strongly in the concept of local coverage, which is why I have accepted the position of associate regional editor with Patch.com. I'll be working with Regional Editor Jeanne Leblanc to coordinate the coverage in West Hartford, the Farmington Valley, and Southington, as well as a few other towns that haven't come on board yet.

Ronni Newton can be contacted at Ronni.Newton@patch.com with your story ideas, comments and suggestions. We hope you continue to use and enjoy West Hartford Patch.
