UPDATE: Worker Dies in Tragic Construction Site Accident
The construction worker was struck with a backhoe-type piece of equipment while working on the West Haven-New Haven line.

West Haven, CT — A construction worker died in a tragic accident Tuesday after being struck by a payloader and somehow ended up in a truck carrying hot asphalt, according to the New Haven Register.
The man, who police said was 55 years old, was a longtime employee of West Haven-based Pereira & Sons Construction, according to the Register.
West Haven Police and the Allington Fire District department responded to an active construction site near 2 Boston Post Road at about 12 noon.

Police said the construction worker suffered severe injuries when he was struck by a backhoe-type piece of equipment.
The worker was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to WTNH News 8.

Police have yet to release the victim’s name, pending notification of his family.
WFSB 3 reports that crews were working on a sewer project on the West Haven-New Haven line when the worker was struck by a backhoe and ended up being buried by asphalt at the site.
The area was closed for hours as police conducted an investigation. The accident occurred in New Haven and that city's officials will be conducting an independent investigation, according to the Register.
