Fire Displaces 8 In West Haven
A firefighter and a resident reportedly were hospitalized for treatment after the fire on Wednesday night.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Eight people were displaced from their home after a fire on Park Street in West Haven on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.

No serious injuries were reported, but officials said one resident was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and a firefighter received treatment at the hospital for heat exhaustion, according to WFSB 3.

WFSB 3 reports a tenant on the second-floor refused to leave during the fire until her beloved cat, Oscar, was found. Crews eventually found Oscar and brought him to safety.
The American Red Cross is provided assistance to the eight residents — six adults and two children — with immediate needs. The Red Cross is providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire, officials said in a press release.
