Tire Store Destroyed, Car Wash Heavily Damaged In West Haven Fire

Firefighters battled the blaze early Friday morning in West Haven.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A tire and auto business was destroyed and a car wash was heavily damaged in a three-alarm fire early Friday morning in West Haven, according to the New Haven Register.

Firefighters from all three of the city’s fire districts responded to 21 Elm St. at about 12:40 a.m. Arriving crews found heavy fire showing and a second-alarm was quickly called followed by a third alarm, according to fire officials.

Crews battled the fire for several hours and the New Haven and Milford Fire Departments provided station coverage with an engine in each district until all units were cleared, fire officials said.

The Register reports the commercial building that housed Reliable Tire and Auto and the Blue Ribbon Car Wash has extensive structural damage. The fire, which was called in by an ambulance company, appears to have started in the area of Reliable Tire and Auto, which was destroyed, according to the Register.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
