Easton Boy Scout Rebuilds Well House at Bradley-Hubbell Homestead as Eagle Scout Project

The Historical Society of Easton has recently benefitted from the hard work and carpentry skills of Milan Spisek who lead a group of friends, family and members of Easton’s Boy Scout Troop 66 in rebuilding the well house at the Bradley-Hubbell Homestead as his selected Eagle Scout Project. His work is a very welcome and wonderful feature of the historic property.

As part of his goal of achieving Eagle Scout ranking, Milan presented his detailed plans to the Society’s Board of Directors for his special project to recreate the Bradley well house for their approval. He meticulously measured the old remaining boards stored on the property, worked with the few known photos of the former well house and developed blueprints for the historically accurate design. With specifications in hand he approached both Board Silly in Ridgefield and Stepney Hardware in Monroe for donations of materials, which they willing provided. Under his demonstrated leadership, he guided his fellow scouts and friends in reproducing the early 19th Century housing which required special involved complex carpentry skills, patience and precision.

This special project was part of his community service initiative in seeking his Eagle Scout rank. The Society is extremely grateful to his dedication and hard work which has resulted in helping us restore part of the historic past of the Bradley-Hubbell Homestead. The replica well expands the Society’s presentation of farm life in 19th Century Easton to students and visitors to the Bradley-Hubbell Homestead.
